Prionoplus reticularis, is the largest endemic beetle found in New Zealand. It’s also the heaviest New Zealand beetle and its large, white larvae are considered a delicacy. This beetle is also known as the haircutter beetle because if one lands on your head, the many barbs on its legs cause the beetle to get tangled and the only way to remove it is to cut your hair.
